Engine swaps often require significant custom fabrication to make everything fit and function correctly. This VW T5 project involved swapping in a more powerful engine, requiring extensive metalwork to complete the installation.
Project Scope
The customer brought us their T5 mid-way through an engine swap that had exceeded their fabrication capabilities. We were tasked with creating all the custom metalwork needed to complete the installation professionally.
Fabrication Work Completed
- Engine mounts: Custom brackets to position the new engine
- Exhaust system: Complete stainless steel exhaust fabrication
- Intercooler piping: Mandrel-bent aluminium charge pipes
- Ancillary brackets: Mounts for alternator, power steering, and AC
The Challenge
Engine bays are never as spacious as you'd like, and the T5 is no exception. Every component needed careful positioning to avoid fouling on body panels, steering components, and other fixed elements. Multiple mock-up sessions ensured everything would clear before final welding.
Final Assembly
With all the custom fabrication complete, the engine swap could be finished. The T5 now has significantly more power while retaining full functionality of all systems. The quality of the fabrication ensures reliability and makes future maintenance straightforward.
