The Mazda MX-5 is one of the most popular track day cars in the UK, and for good reason. Its lightweight, rear-wheel-drive layout and excellent balance make it an ideal platform for learning car control. Here's how to prepare yours for the track.
Safety Equipment
- Roll bar (required for most track days)
- Fire extinguisher (minimum 1kg, hand-held)
- Tow rope and tow eye
- Helmet (SA2015 or newer recommended)
Mechanical Preparation
- Fresh brake fluid (high-temperature DOT 4)
- Check brake pad thickness
- Inspect brake lines for wear
- Oil and coolant at correct levels
- Wheel bearing check
- Suspension inspection
On The Day
Remove loose items from the cabin, tape over headlights and fog lights, and ensure your battery is securely mounted. Most track days will require a brief technical inspection, so arrive early to allow time.
